Peter Vitale was born and raised in New York City, apart from several formative years spent in Italy during his early childhood.  He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Queens College in New York, where he studied art history and studio painting, while also attending classes at the Art Students League of New York.  His photographic discipline is informed by the principles of painting; composition, form, shadow and light.  Soon after graduating university, Peter apprenticed with legendary photographer Horst P. Horst.

Peter works freelance and has contributed to many prominent shelter magazines, including Architectural Digest, Veranda, Elle Décor, House & Garden, House Beautiful, the New York Times Magazine and Milieu magazine, for which he had the privilege of serving as Editor-at Large at its’ inception under the helm of Editor-in-Chief Pamela Pierce.

In addition to participating in a series of books for Tiffany & Co., including the Tiffany Wedding, written by John Loring and edited by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, his work appears in the books Historic Charleston, Southwest Style by Linda Mason Hunter, Geronimo–Fine Dining in Santa Fe, the Divine Home by Peter Vitale and My Passion for Design by Barbra Streisand.

Peter contributes regularly to marketing and brand imaging for luxury hotels worldwide, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts being a prominent client for many years.  He has also had the distinct honor of documenting the design evolution of the staterooms and private residence at the White House between the years 2004 and 2009 under First Lady Laura Bush and interior designer Ken Blasingame.

Peter lives and works out of Los Angeles, California and Palermo, Italy, after a good many years in Santa Fe, New Mexico and New York City previously.  His commissions take him all over the globe and he is never in one time zone long enough to develop a serious case of jet lag.
